LA JOLLA, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–The Journal of Pregnancy and Child Health published a SneakPeek Clinical study that is exciting news for low-risk pregnant women seeking to know the gender of their baby. Typically, only high-risk pregnancies are eligible for insurance coverage for prescription-based NIPTs. As for everyone else, the cost of entry can be in the thousands. With this new publication, SneakPeek proves that no longer has to be.

The study, based on SneakPeek’s direct-to-consumer early gender DNA products, successfully demonstrated that it is possible to determine fetal sex as early as 9 weeks gestation using a microvolume of maternal plasma. This blinded, multicenter study showed SneakPeek Early Gender Test is highly accurate for fetal sex determination in early pregnancy and has simplified the testing process as well as making it affordable and accessible to a broader population.

A blinded, multicenter study was conducted at fourteen ultrasound clinics with maternal blood samples collected from 241 pregnant women between 8.43 and 36.86 weeks of pregnancy. Fetal DNA was isolated from a microvolume of maternal plasma and quantitative PCR was performed to detect the presence or absence of y-chromosome fetal DNA. Y-chromosome DNA was detected in all samples from women carrying a male fetus. SneakPeek Early Gender Test identified fetal sex in 240 of the 241 samples. Fetal sex for all samples was unknown prior to testing and was confirmed via sonographic evaluation at the conclusion of the study. SneakPeek accuracy was 99.6% for fetal sex identification.

The study shows the continuing breakthrough benefits of microvolume blood collection for use in genetic testing. SneakPeek has been instrumental in utilizing this technology to deliver fast and affordable prenatal genetic testing with highly accurate gender results in the first trimester of pregnancy. Pregnant moms-to-be now have direct access to the at-home version of SneakPeek Early Gender Test at or the Clinical version at ultrasound partners nationwide. Find active locations at
